Last week I had the privilege of spending time with the Aptus team at the always awesome Xerocon. Xerocon is the largest accounting technology conference in Australasia and is a chance for accountants, bookkeepers, tech providers and others in our industry to network and learn in an inspiring and innovative environment.
At Xerocon the Aptus team has been able to learn more about what is happening with technology in our industry and how we can use these to continue to innovate, grow and improve both our businesses and our client’s experience. There was also a few pretty big announcement from Xero for improvements and new releases with my top three being:
1. New customer invoicing
Xero has rebuilt their invoicing feature to incorporate more machine learning to improve efficiency. Currently, in beta, Xero invoicing will now automatically complete the majority of an invoice based on prior invoicing. Business owners will no longer need to add codes or tax rates, which not only saves times, but will make invoicing on the go on the mobile app much easier.
Swifter and simpler invoicing is just an extra step towards you getting paid faster for your work
2. Emails to bills
You may have noticed an email address in your bills section of xero. By using this email address, you are now able to email your bills straight to xero and it will auto extract and populate details into a new draft bill.
This will save business owners using the bills feature loads of times, and for those who aren’t using the bill feature yet, its now so easy, there’s no excuse not to start!
3. Improvements to the mobile app
Xero have made some improvements to the mobile app that we have been long waiting for including enhancements to the bill section of the mobile app. Business owners can now see all of their bills including drafts and can create new bills from inside the app.
There is also a handy list of recent spending listed in the app for those transactions that don’t always make it into bills.
Cool things on the way with NAB & Xero
Although announced a little while ago, NAB & Xero have made further steps forward and the ability to pay bills from inside Xero will soon become a reality for NAB customers. This will be a great win for businesses and a huge time saver.
NAB & Xero have been working closely together and there looks to be much more coming from their collaboration – so watch this space!
My largest takeaway from Xerocon is that Xero has only begun its journey with machine learning, I expect more updates in this space as they improve their product to automate as many tasks as possible for the small business owner. As any new features are announced, Aptus will keep you updated, and if you want any more information we are here to help.
